Abigail is a second-year Masters candidate in the Water Resources Management program located within the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies. Her current research focuses on the effects of urbanization on the water quality of kettle ponds in the City of Middleton. Prior to accepting the campus recruiter position, she was employed as a teaching assistant for a course in the Department of Geography.
Abigail served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the country of Senegal for almost four years. She first served as an Agriculture Extension Agent, where she worked to improve food security with local farmers, women’s groups, and community gardens using improved agricultural methods. She also collaborated on multiple health-focused projects, girls’ empowerment events, and communication projects. Abigail was promoted to Peace Corps Volunteer Leader for her second two years of service where she assisted in the training of new Peace Corps Senegal Agriculture Volunteers. She facilitated sessions on a variety of topics, including cross-cultural collaboration, agriculture technical training, Senegalese agricultural production, and safety and security in country. Her work in the Peace Corps, coupled with undergraduate study at Ithaca College in International Politics and Environmental Science, laid the foundation for Abigail’s focus and study at UW-Madison. Her aim is to work both domestically and abroad in water sanitation and public health. In her downtime she enjoys exploring Wisconsin’s natural gifts and playing the banjulele.
